Happy Duct — Air Duct & Dryer Vent Cleaning

Dryer Vent Cleaning

Fine fibers pass straight through the lint screen and settle along the vent walls, so the dryer runs hotter and longer.

A dryer needs a clear vent path to move hot, damp air outside. Professional dryer vent cleaning clears that path from the back of the appliance to the point where it exits the building, so the dryer can exhaust the way it was designed to.

Cleaning the Lint Filter Is Not the Same as Cleaning the Vent

Emptying the lint screen after every load is worth doing, and it removes a meaningful amount of material. It does not, however, catch everything. Finer fibers pass straight through the filter and continue into the dryer vent, where they settle along its walls a little at a time. Warm, moist exhaust helps them cling, and bends, long runs, and the flap at the outside opening collect more than their share.

The result builds slowly and stays out of sight. As the passage narrows, the dryer loses the airflow it needs to carry moisture away, so it runs hotter and works longer to finish the same load. Over time that shows up as poor drying performance, added wear on the appliance, overheating, and in some cases damage or outright failure of the machine.

There is also a safety dimension. Lint is highly flammable, and a dryer vent packed with it sits directly in the path of hot exhaust. Restricted venting is a recognized contributor to home dryer fires. Cleaning the filter regularly is good practice, but the dryer vent itself needs its own attention.

Signs the Vent Needs Attention

Longer cycles.

Laundry that used to dry in one run comes out damp, and heavier loads need a second pass.

An odor while the dryer runs,

particularly anything scorched or stale.

Weak airflow outside.

With the dryer running, you should feel steady warm air at the exterior opening and see the flap held open.

Lint around the connections,

behind the machine, at the wall fitting, or on the siding near the exterior hood.

How Often Should a Dryer Vent Be Cleaned?

Once a year works as a baseline for most households. Shorter intervals make sense with heavy daily laundry, a large household, pets that shed into every load, or a dryer vent that travels a long distance with several bends before reaching an exterior wall.

What Our Standard Service Covers

Starting at $129

Our standard dryer vent cleaning service includes:

  • Dryer vent cleaning up to 20 ft
  • Lint screen cleaning
  • Dryer inspection
  • Exterior vent and exhaust connection inspection

Before any work starts, we inspect the dryer and confirm the price with you.

What the Service Involves

  1. 1

    Assessment.

We look at how the dryer connects, the route the vent follows, where it exits, and whatever you have noticed about drying times or performance.

  2. 2

    Cleaning the vent line.

A professional vacuum system is connected to the dryer vent and runs throughout the job, collecting the lint and debris released during the cleaning. Specialized brushes then work mechanically through the vent line itself, clearing it along its full length rather than only the sections near the dryer or the exterior opening. Buildup that has packed into the middle of the run is exactly the part that cannot be reached without professional equipment, and it is where restriction usually begins.

If we notice any visible problems with the dryer vent during the service, we let you know. Crushed sections, connections that have come apart, damaged exterior hoods, and flexible plastic or foil sections that trap lint faster than smooth metal are all worth being aware of.

What Cleaning Accomplishes

Normal drying times return,

when a restricted vent was the reason cycles had been running long.

Less strain and less wear,

because the dryer is not working against a blocked exhaust path on every load.

Lower energy use per load,

which follows from cycles that stop running long.

Reduced fire risk,

with the accumulated lint removed from the exhaust path.

A slow dryer is not always a vent problem. Heating elements, thermostats, and moisture sensors fail as well, so if performance does not improve after cleaning, the next place to look is inside the machine.
